BUXTON ‘Ductair’ Bulls suffered a 56-34 defeat at the Ecco Arena Raceway on Saturday night against the Middlesbrough Tigers in the WSRA National Development League.
The Bulls fell behind in the opening heat as Ace Pijper got the better of Alfie Bowtell with Alex Spooner to gain a 4-2, and the Tigers extended their lead with a 5-1 from Charlie Southwick and Alex Spooner over Luke Harris to give the home side a 12-6 lead after three heats.
A series of drawn heats kept the Bulls in touch with the hosts, and at the midway point of the meeting, Middlesbrough led by just six points, with the scores 24-18 and the Bulls very much in contention.
The Tigers then put the Bulls to the sword as they dominated the second half of the meeting, reeling off four 4-2 heat advantages and two 5-1’s in the next eight races, resulting in Buxton losing 56-34 in a meeting where they relied heavily on Jack Roberts, Alfie Bowtell and Jake Mulford.
Ductair Bulls team manager Laurence Rogers commented, “It’s disappointing to lose so heavily in the end after being very much in with a chance of getting something out of the match at the halfway point, but in the second half of the meeting, despite our best efforts, we were just not able to hold on.
“We now have to dust ourselves down and look forward to tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon’s home meeting at Hi-Edge Raceway, 3 pm start.”
