BUXTON ‘Ductair’ Bulls moved off the foot of the WRSA National Development League as they not only gained the win on the day but the aggregate point as they defeated the King’s Lynn Young Stars 51-39 in the league at Hi-Edge Raceway on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulls took the lead in heat three with a 4-2 from Jack Roberts and Luke Harris over Mickie Simpson and extended their lead in heat seven with a second 4-2 this time from skipper Alfie Bowtell and Will Boraston as the Bulls opened up a four-point lead with the score 23-19.

The Young Stars levelled the scores in heat eight as Ollie Binns and Simpson stormed to a 5-1 over Jack Shimelt.

Buxton, though, hit the Young Stars hard starting in heat ten as they rattled in three maximum 5-1 heat advantages and a 4-2, which gave them a 46-32 lead after thirteen heats, Bowtell and guest Nathan Ablitt combining to get the better of Simon Lambert and Jake Mulford in heat thirteen.

Despite Buxton having gained victory on the afternoon, there was still the aggregate point up for grabs, and King’s Lynn jumped out of the start with Simpson and Binns, but thankfully for the home side, Jack Roberts managed to split the pairing, passing Binns for a Stars 4-2, leaving King’s Lynn requiring a 5-1 in the final heat.

Simpson made the start in heat fifteen and managed to hold on from Bowtell and Ablitt, who kept Lambert at bay for a drawn heat, resulting in all three points remaining in Derbyshire with the Bulls.

Team manager Laurence Rogers said, “It was a solid performance by all the lads this afternoon. King’s Lynn made us work hard for the victory, and from heat ten onwards we really took hold of the meeting and pushed home for the win. Once we’d got the two points, we battled on to secure the aggregate point also. The result has moved us off the bottom of the table and into fourth place in the league table.

“Last night at Middlesbrough we felt a little down after being in contention there. What a difference a day makes in sport, as we did similar to King’s Lynn this afternoon and hopefully we can do similar next week when we face Middlesbrough in the return match. We have a team and a bunch of lads that really want to do well for this club, and I’m chuffed for them.”
